From Denise's Desk: An Opportunity for Better Public Relation...ships

Healthcare Observations: National Nurses Week May 6-12

In the grand scheme of things, remembering to send a note for Doctor's Day or National Social Work Month might not seem very important but, as the saying goes, "the devil is in the details." And, making an effort to say "Thanks" is one of those all-important details. Healthcare observances are an ideal, non-threatening way to break through the clutter and get in front of your important audiences to build stronger relationships. What you give doesn't have to be expensive, but the message should be targeted and sincere.

For the past several months we've been developing products that help our clients send a special message of appreciation to select audiences of referral sources and others. The feedback from those who sent our National Doctor's Day and Social Work cards with magnets was extremely positive - one director of marketing wrote to tell us that their referral sources LOVED the cards and she wanted to make certain we would be developing similar products for upcoming observances.

Well, she asked and we delivered. This time, in honor of a very special audience (nurses), we took it a step further and created a whole collection of beautifully customized gifts: an audio CD of tranquil music, a note card and magnet and a bookmark (click here to view each of these items, preview the music and review pricing). If you're considering reaching out to your staff and/or referral base of nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, here are a few details to consider to ensure that your effort makes the maximum positive impact:
    1. Make certain the message is targeted specifically to your audience. Generic messages generate generic results.

    2. Select items that are unique. Cookies are great but chances are the competition will be doing the same thing (maybe even better). Take the time to find something that won't be duplicated by every other agency and pharmaceutical company.

    3. Give a gift that will keep on giving. Items such as our four color photographed magnets or CD case were specifically developed because they are "keepers."

    4. Customize. Customize. Customize. Avoid too much self-promotion (remember, this is a gift, not a sales piece) but make certain that the item that they "keep" will always be working for you. Include your logo on everything.
