Recruiting Strategies: Sample Behavioral Interview Questions
This week, we've compiled a sampling of behavioral questions you may want to work into your interviews. As we discussed last week, behavioral interview questions can help you predict how a candidate will actually perform in the position, based on their past behavior. While not fool-proof, questions like the ones below can often help you get past the polished and canned answers, down to the real-life situations.
- Describe a challenging situation you have faced.
- Give me an example of a time that you failed.
- Tell me about a time when you motivated others.
- Tell me about a situation where you've dealt with an upset customer.
- Tell me about a specific goal that you achieved and how you were able to achieve it.
- Tell me about a time that you made a mistake on the job and how you responded.
- Give me a specific example of a time when you used good judgment to solve a problem.
- Describe a time where you successfully persuaded someone to see things your way.
- Describe a time when you didn't get along with a co-worker or supervisor.
- Give me an example of how you deal with conflict.
- Give me an example of a difficult decision you had to make.
- Describe a situation in which you felt like you put your needs secondary to the needs of your company or team.
- Describe a situation where you felt your ability to stay organized was a benefit.
- Give me an example of a time when you had to make a split second decision.
- Give me an example of a situation where you took initiative and leadership.
