Adam's Advice: Make the Most of Business Cards
One of the most common marketing tools is also the one that is often most overlooked by Home Care and Hospice agencies...the business card! You may find it hard to believe that such a small thing could make a huge impact, but think again.
While we certainly don't recommend this, business cards are sometimes the only promotional material an agency will produce and distribute! If not the only, often the first. So clearly, they are important.
Everyone in your organization should have their own business cards with their name on them! Your employees are your best referral source.
Let's look at a few reasons why business cards could be one of your best promotional devices:
- Often the first (sometimes the only) promotional material that your prospective clients will see
- Inexpensive advertisement (a box of cards goes a long way!)
- When well-designed, projects a clear image for your agency
- Easy-to-use sales tool that is uncomplicated, flexible and easy to pass along
- Expected (exchanging cards is an established business practice)
- Creates name recognition
- Builds credibility for you and your agency
While business cards can be great promotional tools, you must avoid some common mistakes that could backfire by projecting a poor image for you and your agency.
Do NOT produce a business card that:
- Does not clearly define what you do
- Is not memorable
- Projects a negative image for your agency (poor design, cheaply produced, etc.)
- Does not act as a marketing tool (missing contact information, website, important information)
- Appears cluttered or type is too small to read
- Contains non-essential information
- Is out-of-date (old information)
- Does not use the space on the back of the card
- Is not professionally printed
- Is printed on thin card stock
If you stay away from these mistakes, you'll likely have one of the easiest and best ways to promote your agency. Make your business card pay its own way!
